Does anyone know of a safe wood stain and varnish? Thanks in advance for any replies!

Overall, water-based

Overall, water-based stains are safer for the environment than oil-based ones and with water-based only soap and water and needed for clean up.

Armstron-Clark Company Wood Stains makes eco-friendly wood finishes. Another benefit of this company is that about 68% of their ingredients are made from renewable/recycled materials.

Soybean-based finishes give off a natural oil, so that a varnish is not really needed. Check out SoyGuard wood sealer and TimberSoy natural wood stain.

Hi Ivy424,

AFM Safecoat- has been around for awhile, and they have some really great "green" paint and stain products.  As one having some chemical sensitivities and asthma,   I've used both products at various times, and have always been happy with the results.  (i.e, Great products;  no allergic reactions..)

Good luck!
